Understanding LGS.
A starting point for families learning about Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome—with space for questions, care, and hope.
What is Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome?
Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (LGS) is a severe form of epilepsy that typically begins in childhood. It may involve multiple seizure types, a distinctive pattern on EEG, and challenges involving learning, development, or behavior. Every person’s experience is individual.
Care is a team effort
Because LGS can be complex, care often involves a neurologist or epileptologist and a broader support team. Treatment decisions belong with the individual, family, and qualified clinicians.
Questions to bring to a care visit
- What seizure types are we seeing, and how should we track them?
- What is our written seizure action plan?
- When should rescue medication be used?
- What side effects or changes should prompt a call?
- How should we discuss nighttime safety and SUDEP risk?
